Mesa Airlines has signed a deal with Bombardier to purchase seven CRJ900 NextGen aircraft.

Subject to definitive documentation, the agreement in principle also includes options for additional CRJ900 airliners.

Delivery of the aircraft will increase the number of CRJ900 aircraft operated by Mesa to 64.

Mesa Airlines plans to operate the new CRJ900 aircraft under a long-term capacity purchase agreement with a US airline.

The airline is expected to receive the aircraft throughout the fourth quarter of 2015.

"Mesa, which was the launch customer for the CRJ900 aircraft in 2001, is claimed to be among the largest CRJ900 aircraft operators worldwide."

Mesa Airlines chairman Jonathan Ornstein said: "The CRJ NextGen aircraft is the quietest, most fuel efficient regional jet available today.

"We are delighted to have the opportunity to order brand new aircraft from Bombardier and place them into service under a long-term capacity purchase agreement."

Mesa, which was the launch customer for the CRJ900 aircraft in 2001, is claimed to be among the largest CRJ900 aircraft operators worldwide.

Mr Ornstein said: "Building on our core business with American and United, Mesa is now the fastest growing regional airline in the country, creating thousands of new jobs and new opportunities for our people."

With the latest Bombardier’s and 11 Embraer’s E-175 aircraft scheduled to be received, Mesa will have a fleet of 115 aircraft by October 2015.

Mesa Airlines operates from its hubs in Phoenix, Dallas / Fort Worth and Charlotte under American Eagle and US Airways Express brands, and as United Express from Washington Dulles and Houston.
