China Aerospace Science & Technology (CASC) subsidiary China Great Wall Industry (CGWIC) has signed a deal with Indonesian firm PalapaSatelit Nusa Sejahtera (PSNS) to develop the new PALAPA-N1 communication satellite.

Under the deal, CGWIC will perform orbit delivery of the PALAPA N1 satellite.

CGWIC will also provide a package solution that includes the satellite, launch service, ground system, insurance and financial support.

To be developed on the basis of the DFH 4 platform, PALAPA N1 will be launched by Long March 3B a rocket from Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in China.

Offering broadcast and broadband services across Indonesia, the high-throughput satellite is scheduled to be in orbit by the first half of 2020, reported Xinhua.

Following its launch, the satellite will be positioned at 113°E orbit slot to replace the existing PALAPA-D satellite, which was launched by a LM-3B rocket from Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in 2009.

CGWIC president Yin Liming said: “PALAPA-N1 communication satellite project is the first communication satellite of Indonesia that produced by China.

"We would like to thank Indosat and PSN for their trust and support, and we are committed to provide quality products and services to PSNS with our best effort and help bring more value to its customers.”

The company currently provides commercial launches, as well as satellites in-orbit delivery services.

It has also been authorised by the Chinese Government to develop international space and technology cooperation.

CGWIC has so far provided 55 commercial launch services for more than 20 countries or regions worldwide.
