Bombardier Aerospace has received a firm order for 16 CRJ900 NextGen regional jets, with options for eight additional aircraft of the same type from an undisclosed customer.

The firm order is valued at $727m at list prices. The order value may increase to $1.12bn if the customer exercises its options.

Bombardier Commercial Aircraft sales, marketing and asset management senior vice-president Ray Jones said: "With the most recent enhancements to the aircraft, we have raised the bar on performance once again, reducing the CRJ900 NextGen airliner’s fuel burn by up to 5.5% compared to earlier-generation CRJ900 aircraft, and making it the ideal tool for operators to develop new markets and increase frequencies."

"The order value may increase to $1.12bn if the customer exercises its options."

With this latest order, Bombardier has received firm orders for 1,833 CRJ Series aircraft, including 359 CRJ900 and CRJ900 NextGen jets.

CRJ Series aircraft are currently being operated by more than 60 airlines and at least 30 customers operate corporate variants of the aircraft across the world.

Last month, Bombardier has delivered the first of 30 enhanced CRJ900 NextGen aircraft to American Airlines Group

The purchase agreement for the aircraft was announced in December 2013, and included options on an additional 40 CRJ900 NextGen aircraft.
