Boeing has selected Safran’s subsidiary Aircelle to supply titanium exhaust systems for the 777X aircraft GE9X turbofan engines.

This contract is said to be Aircelle’s first major deal with Boeing, and strengthen Safran’s role in the 777X programme.

The exhaust systems will be produced using Aircelle’s processes for titanium high-temperature applications.

It will include acoustically treated areas for a reduced noise level signature, and is claimed to offer benefits of lower mass and increased resistance to heat.

Aircelle chairman and CEO Martin Sion said: "Our selection opens up a new relationship with Boeing, and reinforces Aircelle’s role as a world-leading supplier of engine nacelles.

"It also demonstrates how Aircelle continues to apply innovation to all components of an engine nacelle."

Engineers at Aircelle and Boeing are working together to meet the next programme milestone.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes supplier management vice-president Bob Noble said: "Aircelle earned its way into the 777X supply chain through a proven record of quality performance in the industry and a commitment to meet the affordability requirements of our airline customers.

"We look forward to building on the collaboration that led to this agreement."

Aircelle provides nacelle systems for various aircraft, including regional and business jets.

The company has a workforce of 3,800 across its facilities in France, the UK and Morocco.
