Bombardier Aerospace has started production of its new Learjet 85 test aircraft, which is expected to enter into service by 2013.

The Learjet 85 is a mid-sized business jet made almost entirely of composite materials.

The jet is powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW307B engines, boasting 6,100lb of take-off thrust at sea level and low noise levels.

The jet features an advanced low NOx emission combustor while offering a cruise speed of Mach 0.82 and a range of up to 3,000nm (5,556 km).

The Learjet 85 flight deck combines advanced technology with superior design elements for a cockpit environment unlike any other mid-size jet, the company said.

The fuselage will be constructed in Queretaro, Mexico, the wing components in Belfast, Ireland, and wing assembly will take place in Queretaro, Mexico. Additional components will be made in Montreal, Canada, with final assembly taking place in Wichita, US.
