Boeing has announced the delivery of a new 787 Dreamliner aircraft to Jetstar Airways, the first Dreamliner for both the carrier and Australia.

Jetstar’s new 787 Dreamliner aircraft departed from Boeing’s Everett, Washington delivery centre en-route to Melbourne, Australia.

Boeing commercial airplanes president and CEO Ray Conner said: "The 787s unmatched fuel efficiency will give Jetstar an advantage in the marketplace and its passengers will travel with the world’s most advanced in-flight experience."

Designed and built by an international team of aerospace firms, the 787 features large, electrically dimmable windows, larger stow bins, latest LED lighting, higher humidity, a lower cabin altitude, cleaner air and a smoother ride.

The aircraft uses 20% less fuel use and reduces emissions by 20%, compared with the similarly sized aircraft in the market.

Boeing Aerostructures Australia manufactures the movable trailing edge on the wing of every Dreamliner.

Jetstar Group CEO Jayne Hrdlicka said the airlines’ customers will have the chance aircraft’s lower cabin altitude would reduce the impact of jet lag.

Jetstar, the brand of Qantas Group, is planning to introduce the 787 Dreamliner first on domestic routes and eventually on its international network.

The carrier currently has 14 787 Dreamliners on order, and expects to fly an all-787 long-haul fleet by 2015.
